You want to make your own site, and you are an AOL member. You might not
realize it, but AOL gives you free webspace. Each account name automatically
gets a reasonable amount of space, 2 MB, under this name. So if you have 7
screen names, you will have 14 free MB of space.
You also have learned FTP and you want to FTP into your AOL space. There's a
trick to it, and here's how.
You need to set up your FTP program to get into your AOL space. Use these
settings:
ftp: members.aol.com
user id: anonymous
password: yourscreenname@aol.com
Remember, though, you must be logged into AOL under this same name to gain
access.
This is web space a lot of people forget about, so if you are an AOL member,
you've got more space than you realize!"
Also, if you have AOL you probably don't know that you have an online FTP program
for your use. You can upload files to any site on the web with it, not just your
AOL space. Thanks
to Nadine for this tip.
Here are some steps to follow to get to it.
1. Go to AOL keyword FTP
2. Click on Go To FTP
3. Click on Other Site
4. Enter full address. This is the PATH address, not the one with http:// in
it. The path would be like
home/virtual/roxydoll12/html Each site has a different path,
so ask your host if you don't know yours.
5. Click Ask For Log In Name And Password so that a check mark comes up.
6. Click Connect
7. A box should pop up in a bit asking for name and password. Enter the name and
password your host has given you.
8. You are now ready to upload! Call it something (people.html, dog.gif) and
then find it on your computer.
The only down side is you cannot CHMOD
with this, but it works great for loading files.
